Land

This land is located in the heart of Valle d’Itria, where you find original and antique building handed down for 1000 years: the trullo made of the stones of the region. Now trulli have been made a UNESCO world heritage site. There’s nothing more relaxing than the view of the green valley of the trulli, a karstic basin stretching right down towards Salento. The contrast between the red colour of the land, the white stones brought to life by man’s hard work and the immensity of the blue sky, are a feast for one’s eyes.

The visitor will be amazed by the harmony and the perfection of the acres of cultivated land surrounded by dry-set stone walls. The “casedde” (a dialected word for trulli) dominate the entire valley and the surrounding villages. The trullo is cool in summer and warm in winter due to the natural insulation that is formed as a result of the existing air chamber in the 2 metre thick walls.

Our trullo’s position is gorgeous and charming! It is in fact surrounded by incontaminated nature among secular olive trees, almonds, cherries and all other kinds of fruit trees. Within few minutes from the trullo, you can reach the sandy or rocky beaches of the beautiful and warm Adriatic sea and in half an hour you can plunge into the fantastic Ionian sea full of tropical colours.

Enchanted by this charm, we decided to restore our trullo with care and and refinement , strictly adhering to the characteristics of the antique building. the circles start to diminish creating the cone, which is covered with stone chips called “chiancarelle” and crowned with a pinnacle. A layer of lime whitewash on the inside walls wards off insects. With its stable construction the trullo resists wind gusts and earth tremors. The internal layout is one of rational simplicity, where humans and animals lived together.

Our trullo, called “TRUE LOVE” because it was genuine and true “love at first sight”, is located in the heart of the beautiful Valle d’Itria on the ” road of the extra virgin oil “.

Tradition once dictated that this extraordinary oil be preserved in large terracotta vases famously known as “capasoni”, but today elegant dark bottles or five litres metal can are preferred to safeguard their special characteristics. This extra virgin olive oil is excellent and especially appreciated abroad where is considered the first oil labelled “Made in Italy”.

The “True love” landscape has its own uniqueness: it is covered by olive, cherry, almond and persimmon trees in an extraordinary tranquil setting which is ideal for those who want to relax and enjoy the natural heritage of the fantastic “Valle dei trulli”.

History

History tells that this special construction called “trullo” was built individually by hand using the dry stone walling technique. The reason was to avoid payment of taxes and the king’s authorization for new construction. In case of royal inspection, the trullo could be pulled down and built up again in a short time.

Trullo has a circular or square base and the whole construction is dry-set (without mortar) from the walls to the cone-shaped roof. Limestone bricks are layed in concentric circles, one on top of the other.

At the height of about 2 metres, the circles start to diminish creating the cone, which is covered with stone chips called “chiancarelle” and crowned with a pinnacle. A layer of lime white-wash on the inside wall wards-off insects. With its stable construction the trullo resists wind gusts and earth tremors. The internal layout is one of rational simplicity, where humans and animals lived together, in a room measuring approx. 30m2. Each utility had its own space as the fireplace, the rainwater cistern, the haystack, the storage, living and working space.

The white painted symbols on the cones emanate a magic power uniting man to infinity.
